# Tastelint > Lint for how it looks. Tastelint reviews screenshots that already exist — on a GitHub pull request, or sent to the API. It does not take screenshots itself. This file is for AI agents helping a human set up Tastelint. Your job is to hand the human the right links in the right order and confirm the result — the human clicks; you do not make purchases or grant access yourself. There is no config file and nothing to add to the repository. GitHub App setup does not need an API key. To run a review from an agent before a pull request exists, copy the workspace key from Review settings and POST to the API below. ## Setup (in order) 1. Install the GitHub App. Give your human https://github.com/apps/tastelint/installations/new and have them pick the repositories to review. An agent cannot click through a GitHub App install; this step is theirs. 2. Trigger the first review. Open a pull request with screenshots (or comment exactly `/tastelint` on an existing ready, green one — pull requests that were already reviewed or already green before the install won't trigger on their own). Or skip the pull request and use the API below. 3. Subscribe from the link Tastelint gives you. If the workspace isn't paid yet, that trigger produces a comment with a subscribe link instead of a review — have your human use that exact link, because it ties billing to their installation. Subscribing from the pricing page directly can leave the workspace looking unpaid. 24-hour trial with a card, then $40 a month; 25 reviews included per workspace, $2 per review after. 4. After checkout completes, comment exactly `/tastelint` on the same pull request — subscribing doesn't restart the review on its own. An API call after checkout does run. ## API You can run a review whenever — locally, from a coding agent, before a pull request exists. You do not have to attach screenshots to a pull request. 1. Finish setup above (install + subscribe). 2. Have the human log in at https://tastelint.com/settings and copy the workspace API key. Do not mint a key yourself. 3. POST screenshots: ``` POST https://tastelint.com/api/review Content-Type: application/json x-tastelint-key: tl_… {"images":["https://example.com/shot.png"]} ``` `images` can also be `data:image/png;base64,…` strings, raw base64, or `{ "url": "…", "label": "dark" }` objects. Up to 10. Optional `context` is a short note about what changed. The response is JSON: `summary`, `findings`, and `markdown`. Nothing is posted to GitHub. To review an existing pull request instead (this does post the usual Tastelint comment): ``` {"owner":"acme","repo":"app","number":12} ``` The key must belong to the workspace that has Tastelint installed on that repository. Completed reviews count against the included 25, then $2 each — same as a GitHub-triggered review. Unpaid workspaces get `402` with a `subscribeUrl`. ## Verify - `GET https://tastelint.com/api/health` returns `{"ok":true,"service":"tastelint"}` — checkable by anyone. - The human can see the app at https://github.com/settings/installations (or their org's installations page) — needs their GitHub login, so ask them to confirm. - A `` comment appears on a triggered pull request. On a private repository you need repo access to see it; otherwise ask the human. - An API review returns JSON with `ok: true` and `status: "reviewed"` when screenshots were read. ## Day-to-day (what an agent should do) - Put real screenshots in the pull request (embedded images in the body or committed image files), or send them to the API. Tastelint only reviews screenshots that already exist. - Up to 10 screenshots are read per review. Lead with the states that matter (before/after, key flows), then dark mode, then mobile. - A pull request with no screenshots gets a comment saying so, not a design review. Add the images, then comment `/tastelint` — or POST the images to the API. - Re-runs: comment exactly `/tastelint` (one word, its own comment), or POST `/api/review` again. Completed reviews past the included 25 are billed, so don't re-run in a loop — ask the human before repeated re-runs. - Super review: comment exactly `/supertastelint`, or POST `{"owner","repo","number","super":true}`. That runs all ten review levels in sequence on the same screenshots and uses 12 reviews (about two a month on the included 25). Only someone with write access on the repo can fire it from a comment. Ask the human before firing it. Do not treat it as the default re-run. ## Settings - https://tastelint.com/settings — log in with GitHub (GitHub is the only login).
